How would you describe yourself in 3 adjectives?
Amicable, easygoing, and detail-oriented.
What did you study in college?
I left San Diego to pursue my education at UC Santa Cruz where I graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Santa Cruz was much different than San Diego, the campus felt very different from the suburban area I grew up in. I enjoyed being in nature and feeling disconnected from the city. I met a lot of great people there.
What sparked your interest in technology?
Since I was a young child I had always been tech-savvy. I naturally gravitated towards technology as someone who was very familiar with computers and an avid video game player.
What brought you to MK?
I wanted to launch my career in technology, and found MK to be an exciting company to join following my college graduation. I started as a Front End Developer TFE. I did not initially aim to go into the fintech space, but have enjoyed learning more about fintech, and meeting MK’s people. It has been interesting learning about at an industry I was unfamiliar with and seeing how security impacts the tech side of things.
What are your daily responsibilities as MK’s Network Service Engineer?
Recently, I have been focusing on our security audits, so I have been focused a lot on compliance documents. I manage the web scraping efforts, collecting information for our clients, and prepping release notes for vulnerability scans and code analysis. Being at a startup, I am able to take on additional responsibilities and have been also helping the User Interface team with their tasks.
What is your favorite thing about MK?
My favorite things about MK would have to be the people and company culture. The people are very welcoming and always willing to help. They are great teammates.
Has anything surprised you while working at MK?
I have been most surprised by the amount of security required for the audits and how rigorous the standards are that financial institutions require. MK has provided a great foundation of knowledge for me.
What motivates you?
I am motivated by surrounding myself with motivated people, as well as being part of a work culture that balances being easy-going and working hard. Outside of work I am motivated by my loved ones.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I would love to be in a role that I find fulfilling, have a deep understanding of, and where I can function more independently. I want to be proficient in the modern tech stack and the systems that are generally applicable for modern tech companies.
