Job Description

MK’s Public Relations Coordinator uses their passion for public relations to write compelling success stories and create meaningful network connections with MK’s industry. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing communication with the media and enhancing MK’s brand reputation. The Public Relations Coordinator will need to have a deep understanding of banking, financial services, and technology to bring to life the problems the industry faces and illuminate how MK solves these problems.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key reporters, editors, bloggers, customers, partners, vendors, and public interest groups
  • Write and organize content for regular external press releases, email campaigns, blogs, social media posts, and Newsroom publishings
  • Develop press kit materials for media outlets, including press releases, images, pitch letters, case studies, feature articles, and trend stories
  • Interview customers, employees, or partners to produce written material
  • Research and generate content for tracking customer statistics
  • Research and manage SEO keywords to maximize mkdecision.com website traffic
  • Monitor the media landscape and timely response to journalists’ inquiries—as well as inquiries from other outlets or organizations about MK news stories
  • Coordinate logistics around media interviews, media lists, executive speaking engagements, etc.
  • Plan the development of programs to maintain favorable public and stakeholder views of the organization’s agenda and accomplishments
  • Coach client representatives in effective internal and external communication
  • Evaluate advertising and promotional programs to ensure they align with PR goals
  • Maintain MK’s brand and identity
  • Prepare and edit MK marketing materials to ensure grammar and brand consistency
  • Update and maintain MK’s digital real estate and website
  • Collaborate with managers to identify trends and evaluate advertising to determine whether it is in sync with the organization’s public relation efforts
  • Act as a media spokesperson on behalf of the company

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or a related field
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • 2+ years' industry experience as an effective Public Relations Coordinator 
  • Experience with editing and QA processes; ability to accept feedback with a desire to constantly improve 
  • Ability to make media pitches
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and visual communications
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Must be self-directed and able to accomplish tasks independently
  • Is located in San Diego
  • Can read, speak, and write fluently in English

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Credit Union or Banking Industry experience
  • Experience improving SEO ranking of company digital media
  • An up-to-date, working knowledge of current, past, and projected trends in the SEO industry
